Lover Unleashed by J.R. Ward

Did J.R Ward "bring it" again?  True.

The ninth installment of the Black Dagger Brotherhood keeps the brothers story alive, with a few new characters added in this whopping 498 page book!  Be prepared for an emotional and lengthy read.  Did I "like" the book? Um…Yes, but I had serious issues with it.  I had debates with myself, trying to explain and express why I didn't "love" this book.  Because I really wanted to LOVE it!

I really, REALLY wanted to LOVE it!

So, overall the book was good read. Ms. Ward produced a solid continuation of her Black Dagger Brotherhood Series.  I love her unique writing style and how she uses slang and pop culture references throughout her writing.  And just like in her other books, we get to read about what else is going on with the other brothers, as well as, the "evil" doers.  *insert evil laugh*

I did however, find some parts of the book a bit tedious to read.  I was frustrated for the first half of the book, mostly because I wanted to read more about the main focus of this book which was suppose to be Manny and Payne!  Grrr…

Like I sad before OVERALL the book was good but Manny and Payne's story was a little bit of a let down.  Payne wasn't the bad ass I thought she would continue to be.  Remember the fighting scenes she had with Wrath?  And Manny was just…Manny.  Not the sexy intense Doctor Manelo I wanted.  I guess my problem was I wanted Manny and Payne's story to be more exciting!  Kind-of like V and Jane….and Butch's story was in this book!   They stole the show!

Don't get me wrong Manny and Payne's romance was sweet and forbidden (you know, in the doctor patient kindof way) but Manny and Payne didn't stand out like most of the other hero and heroine stories Ms. Ward has produced in the past.

So I can't complain too much because I'm glad we got to read more about V and Jane.  I'm not a big V fan (Z and Wrath are my favorite) but V and Jane's abrupt end to their story didn't settle very well with me.  Jane becomes a ghost and now they can live together forever was also a little bit of a let down.  So, I'm glad they finally get a happily-ever-after that meets my HEA standards.  Ha.

If you've been a fan of the BDB series, like me, and have read all nine books, you'll notice that the main focus of the series is going to shift.  There are new (and very intense) characters introduced into the brotherhood mix, hence the length of the book.

Also, I do not recommend to read this as a stand alone.  I recommend reading the other books before you read this one, there are way too many complicated back-story references.  This is not a good start for a first time reader to the series.

So, my final answer is…YES, definitely read it!   I'm also very curious to see what every other die-hard fan have to say too!

Ms. Ward keep it coming. True.

Running Blind by Nicki J. Markus (part one)

Running Blind (Time Keepers, #1)Running Blind by Nicki J. Markus
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great start to a futuristic world where paranormal creatures are fact, not fiction. Part one ended on a big cliffhanger and now I can't wait to read part two to find out what becomes of Nick's chance meeting.

*note this is a 4 part series, and this review is solely on part one

Do you have “Widget Envy”?

If you're like me you surf the net…a lot.  If you surf, you probably have several blogs/websites you visit often.  They probably have great widgets, and you develop what I like to call "Widget Envy".  LinkWithin is one of those widgets, but LinkWithin is FREE and super easy to install.

Here is their site:  http://www.linkwithin.com

What is LinkWithin?

It's a third party widget that can display a list of related posts on your blog.  LinkWithin looks at your tags, as well as several other factors, then displays a list of related posts with a thumbnail from the post.

During your initial setup you do need to have an email address, the url to your blog/website and know what platform you run.  You can also choose between having 3, 4 or 5 posts displayed.

Just fill out the form (*note: if you want to install LinkWithin on multiple sites you have to fill out the information multiple times for each website you want add LinkWithin to) and follow the steps.

If you have WordPress, like me, you just download the .zip file and upload it into your "Plugins" area.  If you don't have WordPress, don't worry, they have a step-by-step guide for Blogger and TypePad plugins.  If you don't have either of these blogging platforms, LinkWithin will also provide you with a code snippet that you can use on the "other blogging" platforms.

See, super easy, happy Blogging!

Angels’ Blood by Nalini Singh

Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Remember what it's like to put down a book you've gotten completely lost in? Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh gave me a smack to the head and left me in a stunned stupor. I knew this story would be a good read, but Ms. Singh's imagination is epic.

This is not your ordinary vampire book; it has a completely new spin on vampires. However, vampires are not the the main stage story. There are Archangels that rule cities, create and own vampires and have a deep dark power that can destroy the world. There is also a Guild of vampire hunters hired to hunt down any bad little vampires, and this brings us to our main characters: Archangel Raphael and natural born vampire hunter Elena Deveraux.

Angels' Blood was filled with wondrous beauty, gritty violence and sensual pleasure. I can't wait to read the rest of her Guild Hunter Series. I'm just sad I didn't find this series sooner!

Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh

Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling Series #1)Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Nalini Singh is a new author to me and with the first chapter of Slave to Sensation she completely captivated me!

The plot is a futuristic world that features Psy, Changelings and humans. Sascha Duncan is Psy. Psy pride themselves on being emotionally detached allowing them clarity and precision in all their dealings but Sascha has a deep dark secret; Sascha feels and the shields she has built to hide her emotions are slowing failing. To make matters worse a meeting with Lucas Hunter, a Changeling, has her emotions on a freight train headed for a cliff.

Ms. Singh has created an exciting and entertaining world that you will easily lose yourself in. I fell in love with both the hero and heroine, who were both strong, intense and vulnerable characters. Slave to Sensation is a great blend of Sci-Fi and romance, and I am sure fans of both genres will enjoy.

I have already downloaded the next book in Ms. Singh's Psy-Changeling Series– Visions of Heat –as well as– Angel's Blood– her first book in the Guild Hunter Series. Yey!

On the Hunt by Gena Showalter (Shannon K. Butcher, Jessica Anderson, and Deidre Knight)

On the Hunt (Includes: Sentinel Wars #3.5, Final Prophecy #5.5, Gods of Midnight, #4.5)On the Hunt by Gena Showalter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really got this book because I saw that Ms. Showalter had released a new book but was pleasantly surprised with the other stories.

Overall, a great anthology of paranormal romances by popular PNR authors. I truly enjoy anthologies because it introduces me to new authors. Now, I have a few more series to add to my To-Be-Read pile!

I thought all the stories had great characters, good action, steamy romance and believable happily-ever-afters or "to be continued…". The Collector by Shannon Butcher really got my attention, though. Sentinels that must meet their true mate or turn evil, how intriguing.
